What She Really Wants
If you’ve read the intro page to this site, you know that I work as a nurse in a long term care facility.
Today was mothers day, and as usual, I had to work. ( I don’t really mind, my mom is 150 miles away in southern Michigan, and I’m happy to let some of the other nurses have the day off to spend with their families.) And spending part of the day taking care of OTHER peoples moms isn’t a waste of time by any means.
The thing about the day that DOES bother me, is seeing people who NEVER come to visit their family member waltz in and attempt to make up for 364 days of neglect all in one day by giving my staff a hard time.
“Momma needs this, momma needs that.. momma needs her hair combed, momma needs blah blah blah.... “
I just want to grab these people by the collar and look them right in the eye and say “No., what momma needs, is for YOU to make it a point to visit more often. She needs you to bring her grandchildren in once in a while. She needs YOU to comb her hair for her once in a while. She needs to get a phone call occasionally, and she needs to know that she still matters to you the other 364 days of the fucking year!”
